Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views arthritis as a condition caused by a blockage in the flow of Qi (vital energy) and Blood in the joints, leading to pain and inflammation. In TCM, the goal of treatment is to unblock the flow of Qi and Blood, reduce inflammation and pain, and restore balance to the affected area.
Acupuncture
This involves inserting fine needles into specific points along energy pathways to restore the flow of Qi and Blood, reduce pain and swelling, and improve joint mobility.
Cupping:
This is a technique in which heated cups are placed on the skin to create suction, improve circulation, and reduce pain and swelling.
Herbal medicine:
TCM uses a variety of herbs to help relieve pain, reduce inflammation and improve joint function. Some common herbs used for arthritis include ginger, turmeric, and frankincense. The herbs are prescribed according to the patients changing condition, mixed in our own dispensary as soluble granules and sealed in daily dose sachets.
Dietary therapy:
TCM believes that the foods we eat can affect our health, and therefore we can recommend specific diets to help manage arthritis symptoms. For example, reducing consumption of cold and raw foods and increasing consumption of warming foods like ginger and cinnamon is recommended.
